Ruidoso shopping is a form of recreation in itself. Midtown is home to numerous boutiques and gift shops, and there are several shopping attractions beyond this district as well. Midtown’s souvenir shops offer a fun taste of nostalgia where you can find everything from wooden toy rifles to scented candles to scorpion paperweights, or you can browse for pelts, walking sticks, moccasins and other “mountain man” gear at the trading posts. There’s a t-shirt shop on every block, and there are many fine clothing boutiques, including Ruidoso’s landmark retailer, Brunell’s. Among the art galleries and gift shops you’ll also find fine jewelry, including a wide selection of Native American silver and turquoise.
Midtown’s treasures include wonderful specialty shops where you can discover fossilized trilobites, handmade soaps, locally roasted coffees, naughty novelties, santos and other religious artifacts, antiques, and more. Gourmands will love the opportunity to add New Mexico flavors to their pantries: hot sauces, salsas, Hatch green chiles, pepper ristras, New Mexico wines, pistachios, and other New Mexico specialty foods.
