December 9-11:
Walk Through Bethlehem at the Angus Nazarene Church: See Bethlehem as it looked in Jesus’ time. There will be volunteers in costume, talented artisans displaying their work, and a nativity scene, of course. This event is by reservation only. 6:00pm-8:00pm. The celebration will end with a countdown and champagne toast. For the evening show, where there will be a gourmet meal along with the live performances. From June 22-25, Ruidoso will welcome nearly two dozen beautiful and talented ladies competing for the title of “Miss New Mexico.” For the first time in the Pageant’s history, Spencer Theater will host the competition. The wining contestant will represent New Mexico in the Miss America pageant next January in Las Vegas.

The week of the event will feature preliminary competitions, the “Little Miss New Mexico” talent show, a VIP dinner and performance, and the Miss New Mexico finals.

During the Great Depression the Federal government provided funds to assist artists throughout the United States. Many painters and sculptors working in New Mexico were able to continue their work throughout the Depression with the assistance of these funds. The New Deal monies also supported the design and construction of public buildings, such as libraries, courthouses, and schools as well as monuments and parks. Images of 40 New Deal paintings and sculptures by New Mexico artists will be on display in the Hubbard’s Greentree Room.
